Organizational Tips
Becoming an organized person is no simple task, but it can be done!
Organize your materials
You will need:
- An organized `tool kit` which contains:
- Book bag, backpack, briefcase, Three-ring binders
- Paper, pens, pencils, highlighters, and other necessary supplies
Helpful Hints:
- Organize materials for the next school day every night before you go to bed
- Be sure to have a `tool kit` for working at home and at school
Organize your space
You will need:
- A consistent place just for studying
- A large table or desk and clear everything off except what you`ll need
- Good lighting, minimal noise and distractions
Helpful Hints:
- Study in the same place every day
- Have all the supplies you will need ready at hand to minimize interruptions
Organize your time
You will need:
- A long-range calendar (semester-on-a-page calendar)
- A short-range calendar (assignment book or syllabus)
- A daily assignment book or Post-it notes to make detailed lists
Helpful Hints:
- Place your calendars in places that are easily accessible
- Use your calendar every day
- Write down all the details of an assignment
- Do not rely on memory alone
- Use a checklist of things you will need to accomplish each day or week
Organizing Information
You will need:
- Several `containers` to keep your written information organized.
Helpful Hints:
- 'Containers` include file folders, notebooks, boxes, file drawers, etc.
- Use a Reference container to keep materials/handouts you find useful for any class
- Use a Reserve container to store information needed for a final exam
- Use a Working Notebook to keep notes/information you need on a daily basis
